When a person is diagnosed with an illness, it can be quite stressful -- both for the person who is ill and for family and friends. Likewise, when a pre-existing medical condition worsens or the medical situation changes, it can be very difficult to get the information you need and discern the best treatment options.   Questions and worries come to the fore...

 Many people who’ve received the diagnosis of a serious or life-limiting illness turn first to medical web sites or self-help sites for people with similar diagnoses. And while web resources can be excellent, it can be tough to discern what's most important. Remember: The info you're seeking may have significant impact on you and your life. Knowing what to look for on the web, where to look, and how to integrate what you find, is essential.  

The best way to receive good health care is to communicate effectively with your providers. And that’s a whole lot harder than it sounds. Navigating health care effectively and advocating for your needs is heck of a lot more difficult when you’re feeling sick, stressed, and vulnerable. It shouldn’t be so hard to receive excellent care. But since it is, the ownness is on you--or those caring for you.  Here's the info you need to get the care you deserve.

I sure do.  As a caregiver, I know how tough it can be to give up control over your daily schedule and seek help. Most of us, like me,  are more comfortable being the care-giver than the care-receiver. Still, saying yes to help is necessary: Going it alone doesn't work.
